Backrooms Level 33 is a bottomless and topless chasm. The walls are sometimes narrowly spaced, and sometimes separated by miles. No one has ever seen the top or the bottom of the chasm.
One of the many unique dangers of the chasm lies in the sudden flashfloods down its walls. Somewhere up at the top, there a great flood happens due to heavy rain or some other event, and comes flooding and falling down the sides of the chasm. If the unwary traveller gets caught away from shelter durring these events, then they risk being washed to the unexplored depths. All residents of the chasm agree that this means certain death.
Though these floods pose serious risks to the residents of the chasm, they also provide life. The irregular flash flood waters get captured by a network of channels that direct the excess water into massive cisterns. These cisterns become the source of water for farming, drinking, and bathing.
The sole tell that these floods are on the way happens when drizzling mist falls from the heights, warning that the flood will strike soon. The residents warn, "Beware the mist."
